Eric- Good stuff. Your questions beg a bunch of other questions… which involve one's mindset to having an online venture altogether. Perhaps another question worth asking… “What are the top reasons affiliate marketers fail?” As someone who has been doing this for a while, no doubt you have something to say to that question.

Great topic I heard recently that most people who sign up as clickbank affiliates are not making enough commission to even receive a paycheck. So some of the questions I would ask before even jumping into it are…

A) Do I REALLY want to be a MARKETER? (or do I hate sales and marketing…)

B) Am I willing to run it like a BUSINESS? (and not just a hobby…)

I've used clickbank only so far, and never had any issues with payment.

Great point Jennifer. With the transparent affiliate. If your review is favorable and done in a compelling way, you become a validation of the information presented sales page, even an extension of it. That said, it certainly makes sense to consider historical conversion rates of a given product creator, although I'm not sure it is too critical.
