3 Reminders on the Importance of Learning – Can You Identify?

Running a business is great, especially when considering all the freedom it can offer, but it can also have an adverse effect on your creativity as an entrepreneur.  As a result of several courses I’ve recently reviewed, I’ve been reminded of some very important things about business and continuing education that I’d like to share.

3 Reminders on the Importance of Learning – Can You Identify?

Learning is essential for succeeding with an online business.  I like to think of it, as Learn, Apply, Grow (repeat).

Don’t Let Your Business Consume You

There is a lot to running a business.  Especially an online business.

Clients, campaigns, SEO, social marketing, email marketing, video marketing, outsourcing, banking, accounting, the list of activities for running an online business goes on and on.

There are activities that are within your gifting, you know, the things you love to do, the things that energize you just to talk about them.  Then there are those energy drainer activities.  Some of which could and likely should be outsourced.

Over time, these activities can kill the creativity that got you started as an entrepreneur in the first place.

It’s important to keep the creative juices flowing, guard your time (more on that here and here), and schedule learning time on a regular basis (weekly).

Importance of Always Learning

Be a lifelong learner. Some advise reinvesting 10% of your annual income into continuing education.  Whether that number jives with you or not, it is important to invest. Here are some of the benefits of being a lifelong learner.

Reminder 1: There Are Many Ways of Doing Something

Keyword research is an important aspect of any online business.

If you don’t know profitable keywords that search engine searchers use, and the cost to rank for those terms, you are positioning yourself to win.

Did you know there is a great way to discover keywords quickly and it doesn’t cost a dime?

Example: Weightloss industry.  People want to get rid of fat, right?  But what kind of fat?
  • Goto Google.com
  • Search using quotes and a wildcard (*) in a phrase, “how to lose * fat”.
  • Scroll through the results and see what kind of fat people want to lose.

This tells Google to return results with the most popular type of fat people want to lose.  My results show…

  1. Stomach fat
  2. Belly fat
  3. Tummy fat
  4. Thigh fat

You like? This other way of doing keyword research would have been missed, if I hadn’t reviewed materials in a recent course.

Reminder 2: Learning is Energizing

Learning things you are passionate about also energizes and inspires you to keep on trucking.  I like to call these Ah-ha moments. I had no idea there was an untapped world of cheap paid traffic using StumbleUpon Ads. So I purchased an affordable guide, and dove in.

Reminder 3: New Strategies Can Be Applied for Quick Gains

If you’ve been around a bit, have a website, a subscriber list, etc.  Learning a new technique can often be easily applied for quick returns. Creating an email preheader is an example of a simple “leverage” change that can make a big difference in many markets.

Learning Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive

In many cases learning is free.

Review webinar invitations you receive, and attend if it make sense.

Sure they may want to be selling you something, but if they do it right, they make attending worth it by giving away some great content!

    G’Day Travis,
I used to upset some of my fellow trainers by saying that there were three certainties in life: death, taxes and learning. Learning occurs whether we like it or not. Precisely what we learn and how well is the real issue. But that’s another story……..

I just wanted to thank you for this post. I learnt lots; especially from that AWeber material. I’m currently reviewing my blog. your post was both timely and useful.

Incidentally I obtained the free stuff about ads on StumbleUpon in another of your recent posts. That was quite arevelation too.

    Thanks again, regards

    Leon

Nice hearing from you Leon. I couldn’t agree more, there is public school, and the school of hard knocks, in both you can get a passing grade or a PhD. :-)

Glad you find the stuff here useful. It’s important to know that readers find content both useful and timely.

      -Travis
