3 Reasons Why I’m Using Google Chrome More Than Ever

There are few reasons to adopt a new piece of software, unless it has real productivity gains.  I’ll admit, I like cool tools like the next person, but if the tool doesn’t help me get more done, it won’t last.  A couple years ago when Google first entered the browser market by releasing Chrome, everyone was impressed with it’s speed, but the discussion didn’t go much beyond that.  Today, several versions later, and a maturing extensions leaves me using it more than any other browser.  Let me share 3 reasons why.

3 Reasons Why I’m Using Google Chrome More Than Ever

If your primary job has you working online most of the day, it is all about proper focus balanced with productivity.  Using Chrome might move things along for you a bit too.  Here are reasons I’m using it more than Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari.

1-Speed and Reliability

Speed was the most impressive part of Chrome when it released, I found the application loaded in about half the time of Internet Explorer or Firefox.  The problem was the lack of extensions/plugins that I came to rely on with Firefox.  Thinks have changed since then (below).
Less Freezing and Crashing. More than that, running Chrome on Windows I find less crashes and freezes.  I think there was one time Chrome froze for me, but it was only a single tab, it closed, leaving the other tabs in application working as normal.

2-Support for My Favorite Extensions

Early on, there wasn’t much I could do with Chrome to make it easy to login to the online services I use, check SEO related data, read and store shared bookmark resources. Over the last few months, with Chrome Extensions the most popular plugins I use with Firefox (like ones here and here) are now available with Chrome.
SeoQuake – Great for understanding at a glance the results on search engine result pages (SERPs), or for a particular website (reviewed here).
Roboform – The best $30 I ever invested for a software productivity tool.  It memorizes your logins for any site you wish, so that you don’t have to keep passwords on pieces of paper, and it can sync between multiple computers.  Their online version is required (currently in beta), to work with their Chrome extension.
Delicious – Allowing users to centralize bookmarks they collect across the web and share them publicly or keep them private.  Checkout our public ones here.
Cooliris – Makes it easy to browse and search for images and videos on social networks and more.  I created a video shortly after discovering this a couple years ago, it’s here on Facebook.

3-Bookmarks Everywhere

I happen to have multiple computers, laptops, desktops, so having flexibility to get to needed information quickly is important.  There is a set of bookmarks that are used often displayed right under the address bar.  Having a Google account, Chrome is set to to synchronize these bookmarks, allowing me to have them on any computer I use when logged into my Google account with the Chrome browser.

Get started today with Chrome, you just might find you’ll use it more than other browsers too. Chrome download page.
These are a few of my reasons.  Does Chrome work for you?  Why or why not?  What extensions do you use to get more done? Chime in below.

All very good points. Roboform has been the killer for me. I looked at the list of extensions on the page you referenced, wow, there are quite a few. Probably other reasons to move to chrome.

What about all the data that Google get's as a result of using their browser? You ok with that?

      Alex-

You can disable sending of usage stats to Google with Chrome, by going to tools-options-under the hood, and unchecking it.

    Chrome absolutely kicks ass!!!

Faster than a cheetah, cleaner than a cockroach, and way more responsive.

The only reason people are stuck with other browsers is because they somehow believe that the old way is the right way. I've had friends download Chrome, use it and see amazing results, but for some reason they always go back to the old, legless horse called Internet Explorer!

    Oh well…

You wax poetic Dian. IE frustrated me, so I went to Firefox. Chrome impressed me, so it looks like I'm leaving Firefox. :-)

So, after the Wikileaks experience, do people still like to store their data where the US government (without warrants) and possibly hackers have easy access to it? How do you know google does not use your information for their “marketing purposes”? After all, while doing their street view research in Europe, they “unfortunately” just happened to tap into WiFi as well.

RoboForm is reliable and secure software. It encrypts your information when storing it on the online servers. You also have the option to store passwords and other data locally if you wish. Check it out: http://www.roboform.com
