Jeff Walker Product Launch Formula Farewell

FTC-issues-updated-guidelines-for-bloggersMuch has been made about the recent FTC Changes that go into effect December 1.  Everything from, “I’m too small for them to come after me,” to “Internet marketing apocalypse.”   You can learn a lot from what Frank Kern said about his experience here, his take on recent changes here, as well as public records of his experience and final judgement here.  Jim Edwards, long-time internet marketer, dug for the truth in his interview with Mr. Rich Cleland, Assistant Deputy at The Federal Trade Commission (link).  For sure this is something that cannot be ignored, and I think it is wise to take a measured and disclosure oriented approach.  MarketingProfessor.com has recently added a link to our disclosure policy at the top of the comment section for each post.  However, one online marketer has taken an even more drastic approach.

Jeff Walker Product Launch Formula Farewell

Jeff Walker is a landmark marketer, and his Product Launch Formula product has a great reputation.  In the spirit of disclosure, I should tell you, that his product was the first Internet Marketing product I purchased several years ago, and even posted a Review of Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula earlier this year here on the site.  If you have never seen his products or ideas, I’d strongly encourage you take a look.

Jeff’s Response to the FTC Updated Guidelines

Now Jeff is doing what he calls a “Farewell Tour” of his Product Launch Formula product.  Essentially he is response to the FTC guidelines that go into effect December 1, he’s pulling down all his customer case studies.  Make no mistake, he is good friends with Frank Kern who was hit hard by the FTC a few years back (What’s it Like to Be Sued by the FTC), so Jeff is taking drastic measures by removing these case studies, which Jeff says has done very well to help sell his products.  This is in response to “results not typical” not being enough for the FTC.  See Farewell Tour post here.

The Truth is Often a Double-Edged Sword

Certainly makes sense what Jeff is doing, in the process of covering what he feels is his legal obligation, he is also putting together a compelling sales message.  This  final push Product Launch Formula will create a bit of buzz, and no doubt a few sales in the process.

Caution: This Post is Incomplete: What is your take on the FTC update?  Do you think the measures Jeff is taking is warranted, or over the top?  Do you find his approach upfront, backhanded (salesy) or both?  Is it fair?

Wow. I'd like to shout out a resounding "Here! Here!" to Frank's assertion "In my experience, testimonials are overrated anyway. If you deliver enough value BEFORE asking for the sale, you should be able to sell plenty of stuff forever."

    Thanks for posting this Travis.
  • I would agree and add, that building relationships with your following is so very important as well. Converting a sales letter straight from PPC or a SEO is more challenging than ever. Sell the optin, build relationship (adding value), then make an offer.

    Thanks for chiming in.

Short and sweet. Thanks for the various links. You got me thinking on this!
  • Robert- Thanks for noticing... Regarding FTC changes, as they say, "better late than never."

Nice to see more of the why behind the what. I've heard good things about Jeff, but don't yet own his product.
  • First let me say, "your results may vary" :-) I found his stuff to be solid. I think one get's better with each and every launch they do. One thing, don't try and implement everything he presents. Take the highlights and go with that. Add components with each new product launch.
