Top Online Marketing Products of 2010

Social Media:

Twitter – This continues to be a top source of traffic for several sites I manage, including this one. It is a great way to get in front of influencers as well as do real-time market research, and real-time affiliate marketing.

Facebook – Surpassing 500 Million users globally, comScore announced that Facebook surpassed Yahoo and is now the third most trafficked site on the Internet. The release of the movie “The Social Network” which recounts the early day’s of Facebook was entertaining and insightful, and by all account’s didn’t hurt Facebook’s PR.

Hootsuite – Several enhancements (here) to this web-based social media management software, including android and iPhone apps with language support just in time for the World Cup. Later they offered a paid version of their software.

TweetAdder – Twitter management software, released a new version this year. Allowing tweets from RSS feeds, tweet spinning, and support for unlimited accounts. Full review is here.

Email Marketing:

Aweber – Continues to enhance it’s service with improved reporting, webforms, and an API in the last year. They seem to have taken a more transparent approach when dealing with

iContact – They too have an API, but also support mobile apps, meaning users can look and manage their email marketing from their iPhone.

Marketing Automation:

Infusionsoft – Now makes it easier to import data from several providers, now has real-time shipping, an email editor, and is working to make it easier for new users to adopt it’s service (see more here and here).

Blogging:

WordPress – Continues to be the leading platform for hosting blogs. Learn how to get started here as well as WordPress options with Darren Rowse of Problogger.net.

Contest Burner – MarketingProfessor.com 2 year anniversary contest was powered by Contest Burner. Check out the review of the contest Burner plugin here.

WishList Member – A couple improvements to this software earlier in the year (here), later in the year more performance enhancements as well as integration with Infusionsoft.

Video:

YouTube – Ongoing improvements, and UI enhancements seemed to have a settling effect on loyal users who were upset with last years channel redesign. This continues to be a great conversion source for this website, outpacing Google search by 3x. See our channel here.

Camtasia – Several powerful new features with Camtasia 7. This is my video editing software of choice, I’m a PC user, but they also have a Mac version. Here is see our review of Camtasia here. Below is a Amazon widget with links to related products.

Kodak Zi8 – This is still the best, most affordable pocket HD Camera around. I’ve been a proud owner of one for most of this year, and Kodak participated in the 2 year anniversary contest and one winner walked away with one of these. Again, links are above in the Amazon widget.

Interesting list. Do you think Twitter will be around this time next year? Seems like Facebook has a stranglehold on everyone trying to succeed with a social product.

I think Twitter will be around this time next year yes. Hard to say what state they will be in at that time, it will be hard to compete for revenue with Facebook. Facebook is doing a good job enabling site owners to easily create a social aspect to their websites. Roughy 10K+ websites are powering their sites with some sort of Facebook play each day. Google and Twitter sure have their work cut out for them.

I should clarify here. Facebook is profitable, though it pales in comparison to Google revenue (currently). Twitter on the other hand is not profitable, and have not hinted to a strong strategy (yet) to be so.

Full agreement with a lot of your suggestions, Travis. I’m trying to utilize the social options more, as well as regularly reading IM/Blogging blogs – such as this one! My one addition would be Blog Success membership. Jack Humphrey is the absolute poobah in my book. Well worth the cost (investment).

    Best to you,
    Scott
