If you are an information marketer, or one who sells coaching or training on soft skills, a successful launch can make or break your business. Launching a product can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience, or a disappointing and heart wrenching one. Since it is a critical function to many businesses it is worth learning from one of the best. While a review of Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula was done over a year ago, this post revisits 3 things Jeff Walker shares in his product launch formula course for the making of a successful launch, and a preview of what Jeff is up to next.
Jeff Walker and Product Launch Formula Revisited
It’s All In the Planning
Planning is essential to making a product launch work. Many small businesses place a disproportionate amount of resources on product creation when they should be focusing on the events surrounding the coming availability of the product.
In Product Launch formula (reviewed here), Jeff Walker talks about several key areas that should to be well thought out in advance for the making of a successful product launch, and timing is key:
- Several Weeks Before the Launch
- Shortly Before the Launch
- Moments Before the Launch
- During the Launch
- After the Launch
While no launch is perfect, having a well thought out attack plan puts you in a position to maximize launch day. See Jeff’s v3 Video on Product Launches
The Importance and Reason for Scarcity
Every business has limited resources. This is a simple fact that must be considered when launching a product in the marketplace. As the saying goes, “a bad name travels faster than a good one.” If a business fails to deliver the goods to customers in a satisfactory way, it will have a negative impact on your business overall.
That is why it is appropriate to be realistic about the bandwidth available to new paying customers. Scarcity implies that there is only a limited number of slots available for a given period of time. This encourages interested parties to take action rather than sit on the fence. If after the launch and subsequent door closing, you find there to be more bandwidth available, you can always reopen for a short period of time. See Jeff’s v3 Video on Product Launches
Perhaps greater than the financial success a well done launch may afford you is the asset of customers who can become raving fans as a result of their no-regret experience with you, your product, and your company.
Preparation – The Key to Freedom
Being prepared is huge. It’s important to look at every aspect of the launch, and start preparing early, sometimes months before the actual launch. Yet, as prepared as you may be, there will be unforeseen things that come up, which will require your time and attention. Things like:
- Overwhelmed databases
- Connectivity issues
- Broken links
- Customer support issues
- Merchant account problems
- Delays in email delivery
Items to prepare well in advance:
- Sales letter and videos
- Email auto-responders for all phases of the launch
- Product creation or elements related to delivering the product (if it is via live webinar)
- Merchant account providers
Not being prepared for the known things will limit your ability to respond to the unknowns. See Jeff’s v3 Video on Product Launches

Good News If You Are Launching a Product
You don’t have to implement every aspect of Jeff’s formula to be wildly successful launching a product. That is one of the strengths of this course, a marketer can focus on just the foundational elements of the Product Launch Formula and do very well.
The Latest from Jeff Walker
Jeff has a lot to offer product creators if you are someone who is seeking help on launching your own product Jeff has a series of videos as a part of his own launch, Product Launch Formula 3.
He’s taken some of his best stuff and put it in these videos and making them available at no cost. What I find compelling is that he has coached and consulted some of the top minds in the internet marketing industry, who also had some of the top launches. He incorporates these successes and lessons learned into the course updates, which can be a huge time savings if your creativity had a tendency to lead you off course. More than that he’s still a down to earth guy, which I find refreshing.
Instead of filling up space here trying to recap more of what the course offers, I’ll let Jeff tell you in these videos. Even if you aren’t launching a product in the next 6 months, learn from one of the top minds in the industry with these free videos Jeff has made available.
