I’m on the road today, heading west for some sunshine and time with family, but before running out the door, I wanted to get the review of this tool in your hands ASAP. There are three foundations to any online business… traffic, conversion, and tools. Software is often the form many tools take in getting traffic and conversion. Today is no exception. If you use WordPress as your platform of choice, you’ll want to look at this tool which can help you get more traffic on autopilot. I’ll share what Pingback Optimizer does, what I like about it, what I don’t like about it as well as a bonus for those who choose to purchase through my link.

Online business is all about leverage. When you compete online, unless you have a local focus, you are competing with the world. It is important to consider every advantage by investing in tools that help you achieve your goals. This tool is one that you load up and forget, it does what it does automagically. Learn more here.
What are Pingbacks?
Pingbacks, defined here, are notifications of inbound links to WordPress blog pages or posts. It tips off website owners that another page on the internet is linking to your content. In WordPress you can opt to permit trackbacks so that web publishers can be notified when a pingback exists.
How Site Owners Can Use Pingbacks
Website owners who are also SEO savvy can take the pingback information, and enhance their rankings. How? Without getting into technical jargon here, essentially they strengthen the pages (trackbacks) that are linking to their site. Here is my moot attempt to communicate this concept using a PowerPoint slide:
Doing this helps the website owners webpage have more weight than competitor sites whose inbound links have zero or few inbound links. Essentially, strengthening linked pages.
How to Strengthen Your Links
Using WordPress, you can find out what sites are linking to you and then build links to those pages. From the WordPress dashboard, choose screen options in the top right, and enable the “Incoming Links” option.
This will add an Incoming links box on your dashboard. If you build links to those incoming links, this will strengthen your overall placement and value to the search engines.
Building links to those links can be done by commenting on blogs and putting the backlink URL in the website address field. You can also send tweets linking to the same backlink URL, posts in forum signatures work as well.
Some of the challenges of the “do it yourself approach” when strengthening your links:
- The Google blog search mechanism this utilizes is often unreliable. I’ve found there are often many inbound links, whose sites don’t show up in Google blog search.
- Looking for inbound links using other services can be tricky and time consuming
- Many blogs have moderation enabled, meaning your comments must be approved before they show, and they may discard your comment altogether.
Strengthening Inbound Links Automatically
This is where Pingback Optimizer comes in. It is a WordPress plugin that is responsible for detecting inbound links (pingbacks), and then strengthens those links by building links to them (as depicted in red box in the above illustration).
My Interview with Matt Lewis Creator of Pingback Optimizer
If you cannot see the video below, you can find it here. NOTE: Video below hosted with this easy video player software complete with social sharing options and more (reviewed here).
Heads up: As stated in the video, after the video is done playing it will redirect you to Matt’s product page, if you’d rather stay here simply stop the video before it finishes.
What I Like About Pingback Optimizer
Set it and forget it. After I made a configuration change (see Head’s Up section below), I had it installed and configured in less than 10 minutes. Learn more about Pingback Optimizer here.
What I Don’t Like About Pingback Optimizer – A Heads Up
3rd Party Commenting Systems: One thing I ran into on a blog with a 3rd party commenting system (like Intensedebate, or Disqus), is that Pingback Optimizer doesn’t talk to those 3rd party systems. No fault of theirs really, just something to be aware of. The plugin still works, it just cannot detect trackbacks, which breaks the whole “set it and forget it” benefit. What I ended up doing was extracting trackbacks from another reporting tool, and then using the import function in Pingback Optimizer, importing those to the software, and it processed the links just fine.
Throttled Results: I thought the results would be instant, they weren’t. In fact it took a few hours to process a few hundred trackbacks. When thinking this through, and talking to Matt the developer, this actually makes sense. The links are processed when real visitors come to the site. This spreads out the link processing, appearing more natural, while not overwhelming server resources in the process.
My Take on Pingback Optimizer and Exclusive Bonus
I’m putting this plugin on all my sites, and advising clients to do the same. For those who are linkbuilding, doing article marketing, etc. I think the value of this plugin far exceeds the price for the unlimited license (no it’s not $497!). Learn more about Pingback Optimizer here.
