Review of Free SEO Plugin for Wordpress by Jeff Johnson
With business blogging, it is of no value if there is no traffic. Blogs are wonderful for search engine fodder, but how do you know the blog is configured optimally for the search engines. Do you know if your blog is mis-configured it can actually irritate the search engines and discourage them from visiting? Do you have the time to review all the possible things (plugins, etc.) you can do to optimize your blog, and implement them properly so content is easily read and visited often by the search engines? I just finished installing a Free SEO Plugin for Wordpress, one I wish I had a long time ago. Let me tell you more.

Highlights of This Wordpress Plugin
As with any product or service, there are some positive things, and areas for improvement.
Some Positive Things Worth Noting:
- Fast. As you can see in the video, I was done in just a few minutes, installation was no a function of Jeff’s plugin (standard Wordpress), but the optimization was.
- Efficient. When finished, the blog was not overloaded with a lot of plugins. Too many plugins will slow response time for any blog.
- Current. You get the latest version of the plugins right within the administration panel.
- Progress. Although not incredibly descriptive, the progress meter is helpful to understand where your site stands.
- Documentation. I didn’t mention it in the video, but the documentation is well done on Jeff’s site, there are also comment threads for users needing assistance with the plugin. …more info available here.
Some Areas for Improvement:
- But why? While the documentation is good, I didn’t find a lot of “why” information about a particular setting his plugin chose when optimizing the blog. Not a huge factor for most, but I like to understand the logic behind a particular configuration, especially SEO related.
- What’s next? While opting in is required to get the plugin, there is no information as to what is coming, can I upgrade to a paid version? What other products is he going to be informing me about after opting in? Costs? I recognize this is part of the product launch sequence, it would just be nice if there was a more information button within the administration panel of the plugin. …More info available here.
Final Take on this Wordpress Plugin from Jeff Johnson
I think this is a worthwhile tool for anyone managing or starting a business blog, and strongly encourage you get your copy (especially for beginners or novices). While I don’t have the inside scoop here, based on passed experience, I imagine that it will be coming off the market soon or go to a “paid only” version. Register for your free copy here.
