Recently I had a conversation with LinkedIn networking expert Lewis Howes to find out from his perspective what the soon-to-be-public social network has been up to, and what it means for marketers and business professionals. He shared with me what his new LinkedIn training, LinkedInfluence (officially releases today) is all about, and why he’s made it so affordable. After the discussion, I then spent the better part of 6 hours reviewing his course in detail. The recording of my conversation and review of the course is below. I’ll share with you some results I got (screenshot) by implementing a strategy Lewis teaches, details on a bonus training video, as well as a heads up for those of you planning on taking him up on this offer.
[box type=”info” style=”rounded” border=”full”]Update, June 2012: Since the original review of LinkedInfluence last year Lewis and his team have updated the course to account for recent changes with LinkedIn.
They are even offering a limited access free training webinar, find out more here.
The course is still priced within the reach for most professionals. See the results I experienced below.[/box]

Lewis Howes Course – LinkedInfluence Reviewed
As he alluded to in the video, the course is designed to get people started and take them all the way through to building out their network, creating and growing groups on LinkedIn, as well as event promotion, and list building all from LinkedIn.
We’ve discussed LinkedIn before here, here and here, but there have been more changes of late to the site, and Lewis really helped bring me up to speed. In fact, one strategy alone added 45 new connections to my profile in less than 2 hours. I’ll share a screenshot below.
Module 1: Laying The Foundation
This consists of 10 videos to familiarize users with the various menus and navigation on the site, and help users configure their profile properly. Things such as keyword optimization, how to outline and write a summary, as well as strategies for giving and receiving recommendations.
Module 2: Growing Your Audience
For me this was the most impactful module. 7 videos on building you network. Lewis teaches how LinkedIn is a listbuilding tool. He indicated that Facebook and Twitter do not permit exporting contact data, but LinkedIn does. And yes. With EMAILS. Learn more about LinkedInfluence here.
As I mentioned earlier, one strategy I used grew my network by 45 connections in just under 2 hours. Here’s what happened to my inbox, as people confirmed a connection with me.
I had to cut the screenshot short. You get the idea, it worked, and confirmed connections are still coming in as a result of applying what Lewis taught in the course.
He also covers something dear to me, Automation as it pertains to groups. Solid ideas here.
Module 3: The Next Level
This consists of 6 videos. This is where the entrepreneurial mind kicks in. How to connect with the right investors, getting a Job, event promotion and selling tickets, enhancing the functionality of your LinkedIn profile by integrating your blog and video, and driving traffic to your website.
Module 4: Building Your Company
Lastly in the main course, is a 2 video module focused on the newer features of Companies in LinkedIn, as well as a strategy to increase your influence on LinkedIn. Get LinkedInfluence here.
BONUS MODULE: LinkedIn Ads
This module Lewis discusses briefly in the video at the top of the post. It was 1 hour, and was an in-depth look at the Ad platform in its current state with guest presenter Josh Schoenly. Very compelling traffic source especially for those who have a product to sell. I came up with 5 new potential revenue ideas just from this module. Get LinkedInfluence here.
Some Things You Should Know Before Purchasing
The videos were good quality, as was the audio. There were a handful of instances in the videos where the screen capture software zoomed in and Lewis’ mouse and discussion is an area that is out of view of the camera, not a big deal. In fact, Lewis does an excellent job engaging the viewer and covers the material at a good pace.
The course in it’s current state provides no ability to purchase DVDs, or download media, or hook it up to a podcast channel so it can go on a portable media device. I had to watch the video in the browser and at normal speed. Not sure what Lewis’ plans are, but if I had my choice I would download them and watch at 1.5x-2.0x.
Bottom-line on Lewis Howes LinkedInfluence
With every encounter I find Lewis to be a stand-up guy. He certainly knows his stuff. The course is priced at $197, but is selling at the promotional price of $97 during the launch. If you are someone who has been wanting to create a LinkedIn profile, but aren’t sure where to start, or perhaps you’d like to take your profile up a few notches, I can think of no one better to learn from than Lewis Howes.
