Review of Prfessor.com Training Publishing Platform

prfessor.com-product-reviewLearning online is not the wave of the future, it is the future. More than ever it is now. More on that and the Prfessor.com service in a moment.

Several years ago, I started my own online training program for customers of a contact management software. Looking back, much of my time involved wrangling with fickle websites, and hosting accounts to make the content available to customers.

In this post, I’ll share with you a new service that would have made my life a LOT easier back then, who it’s for, screenshots and video, what I like and what I don’t like.

Review of Prfessor.com Training Publishing Platform

On the outset, I should let you know that while the names are similar, MarketingProfessor.com has no involvement in the development of the service the folks at Prfessor.com have created. However, when the product creators reached out to me for feedback on the service, I was intrigued with the name, but moreso the solution. They let me test out the service, and felt it would be a value to readers and subscribers, so I decided to do a review. …more info on Prfessor.com here (video).

What is Prfessor.com – A Description

As the site says: Empty Your Head into Your Wallet: How to Create a Stream of Passive Income with Online Learning

Here is a screenshot of a test course I setup (less than 15 minutes):

What Prfessor.com Offers:

  • The ability to for experts to publish content (courses), and charge for it.
  • Handling of customer payment (after your Paypal or Authorize.net account is configured)
  • Course quizzes/exams
  • Ability to invite other “Professors” to submit their content, giving them a percentage of the sale (this is a big deal).
  • Ability to manually register students, take payment over the phone, override a fee for a given course. You can even promote a student to a professor.
  • Dashboard to reveal course registrations at a glance, enrollment performance Course success tracking, and payables.
  • With this service, learning online is no longer the future, but is attainable now for everyone who has expertise to share.

Who is Prfessor.com Designed for Anyway?

This service is ideal for anyone who has:

  • Expertise (that a market is willing to pay for)
  • A desire to profit from that expertise
  • A desire to remove as many technology barriers as possible

As it was described to me, what blogger.com offered bloggers years ago (making it easy for people to setup their own blog), Prfessor.com offers for people who have information to share which customers are willing to pay for.…more info on Prfessor.com here (video).

When I was considering a software training site, based on feedback I was confident that customers and subscribers wanted this service. What concerned me was the technology of getting it there, should I purchase a big expensive membership site software, or do it myself. I chose the latter, and as it turned out, doing it myself was indeed a big deal. Later learned that a membership model was not the best fit for my market either (hindsight is always 20/20, right?).

A service like Prfessor.com would have been ideal at the time, allowing customers to purchase training on demand for a one time fee, but also allowing me to publish the content easily, and allow me to make more of it while partnering with other experts in it’s creation.

Prfessor.com Likes and Don’t Likes

First, the Likes:

  • It’s Simple – I like the simplicity of the service and interface. It doesn’t overwhelm you, and there are minimal options. It is obvious the creators are experienced developing good user interfaces.
  • Fast – I had my site configured, branded (logo), and a course setup and ready to go for payment in less than 15 minutes.
  • Option for Other Professors – This is a great way to become an expert by association, as you build relationships with others in your market, you can create valuable content for that market, both can profit in the process, making you an expert by association. This is one of the biggest values of the service in my mind.
  • Monthly Fee – The monthly fee is a reasonable flat fee. …more info on Prfessor.com here (video).

The Dislikes:

  • Video: I found no way to upload video content to the site. While you can embed video, they don’t host video. If you are someone who has video content you’ll want to be aware of this, and take measures to make sure it streams well and remains secure.
  • No Affiliate Module: At the time of this review there is currently no way to make students affiliates of a given course. While you can promote a student to a professor, there remains no way to compensate students who refer others to a course. Although they hinted that this is among their list of enhancement requests.

While this product is a ‘startup’, to be fair, this is not a ‘startup’ company in the classical sense. The people behind it have an established client base and web service geared for small to mid sized retail businesses. For me, it is important to know the who behind the what, especially in this economy.

Wrapup

If you are someone who has expertise and wants to share it with the world, but not give it away, while minimizing technical barriers, Prfessor.com should be among your top considerations. It is also great if you want to joint venture with others in your market, product content, and sell it, making you an expert by association. To date, I’ve found no other service like this and I am looking forward to what they are going offer going forward. Get the full scoop on the Prfessor.com service here

I am fortunate enough to be the first customer of prfessor.com. I run my own business using this application and find that the interface is simple and clean. It's also a robust system that can handle 10s of 1000s of students at one time. The design team is responsive to questions and always willing to listen to new ideas.

    I highly recommend prfessor.com!

Hey Bonnie- Your site looks interesting. It's especially great to hear of your experience with the team behind the product. Thanks for chiming in.

    Hey Travis,

This looks really interesting, so I filled out the form with my e-mail address and got a “thanks, stay tuned, you'll hear from us soon” message and then no e-mail to follow. Are these guys still in beta and only inviting so many folks at a time? Any idea why no response – what's your experience been?

    Thanks!
    Len

Len, thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure what to tell you, perhaps the product creators can respond here. What I understand is that they are not officially due to launch until next week sometime.

Nice review. Just one thing though, it's Prfessor.com, not Professor.com, as you mistakenly typed a couple times. I made the same mistake myself. :)

Corrected those (uggggh), thanks for taking the time to point that out Chris.
