Tweetglide – Interesting App – But Not for Everyone
If you have been around internet marketing circles for anytime, no doubt you have heard the name Mike Filsaime. He has done some amazing and breakthrough things online, in fact earlier this year he gave away is popular and powerful membership site software, known as Butterfly Marketing. This week Mike released a new product for Twitter called Tweetglide. It is a software application done Filsaime style. I’m going to share with you my initial impressions, what I like, what I don’t like, why I think everyone is so excited about Tweetglide, and why I don’t think it is for everyone.
Tweetglide – What is It?
Tweetglide is three things for its users. A software application, an advertising platform, and affiliate marketing revenue stream (find out more here).
Tweetglide – The Application
If you are familiar with Adobe Air applications (cool, as these apps run on Windows, Mac, and Linux) like TweetDeck, you will quickly catch on to the Tweetglide application. A series of configurable columns to present information from your Twitter stream, and Twitter searches. Based on the website, it looks like they will also be releasing a version for the iPhone as well.
What I Like About the App:
- It is clean and simple.
- Functions similar to TweetDeck, so there wasn’t a huge learning curve.
- Like Twitter, they even give you an online page (blog). Don’t be fooled, while it looks very similar to Twitter, her you can add customized widgets, etc.
What I Don’t Like About the App: Like any new app, it has it’s share of bugs, when I first installed it on a test account, it send out to promotional tweets without my knowledge. Turns out it was supposed to send just one, this was a bug, and has since been fixed. There are other cosmetic issues that are likely part of ‘getting it out the door’ All in all, these are not showstoppers, I do wish there were more configuration options (buttons are small as is the text). Tweetglide – The Advertising Platform
Essentially, Tweetglide allows users to post advertisements to other Tweetglide users via the ‘Sponsored Tweets” column. These ads are presented based on ad credits accumulated when new Tweetglide users signup via your Tweetglide affiliate link which is periodically published on Twitter through the Tweetglide interface. These credits apply to your account up to 5 levels deep (yep, a multi-level marketing model, or MLM).
What I Like about Tweetglide as an Advertising Platform: I’m a fan of advertising on Twitter (as you can see here). Therefore, in terms of exploring other ways to advertise on Twitter I think this could be a good way to test and experiment, if that is your target market (more on that in a moment). See if Tweetglide is for you.
What I Don’t Like about Tweetglide as an Advertising Platform: I think there may be some confusion Mike and his team will have to work out. In fact, I’m not sure I fully understand it all.
- There is an option to disable to the sponsored tweets column, however that defeats the purpose, as in doing so you no longer qualify for ad credits.
- It’s also worth mentioning that while Tweetglide promotion tweets hit the main twitter stream, the ads Tweetglide offers, only come through the Tweetglide interface, so you better hope your target market is using Tweetglide, or you will miss the mark.
- I think as users realize this is an MLM, along with all the things that go along with MLM business (hard promotion, etc.), the MLM consumer culture, the market will sour against it. I could be wrong, but this is how it often happens with the MLM business model (like here and here). If anyone can overcome this, Mike can.
Tweetglide – An Affiliate Marketing Stream
As you promote the product within your Twitter stream (done for you by Tweetglide), any who click on your link become paid customers (Premium members), you will get 50% commission. Pretty generous, considering the pricing model.
Affiliate Disclaimer: It is possible that if you signup using the links on this page, and choose to purchase, that MarketingProfessor will get credit, this revenue is used to continue to offer real. profitable, advice for our readers sincere in starting or growing an online business. If you’d rather not see us get credit, do not click the links. No hard feelings. Honest.
What I Like about Tweetglide as An Affiliate Marketing Stream: It has a generous commission, and can be a decent recurring revenue stream, this is obvious, and in my view, the prime motivator for Tweetglide users and the #1 reason they are adopting the app.
What Some May Not Like about Tweetglide as An Affiliate Marketing Stream: Accounts: Paypal.com, and PayPeopleOnline.com. You must have an account setup there to get payment. There is also no indicator of recurring revenue for affiliate referrals, it sounds like it is on the initial purchase of ads, but any renewals may not be. If you know more answers about this, please chime in the comments section below the post. More on Tweetglide
Is Tweetglide for You?
If you are an internet marketer, it makes sense to know what is going on out there, and this may be a viable income stream for you, as well as a great place to test ads, especially if the Tweetglide user is also your target market. That said, it isn’t for everyone. If you are a corporate user, or one who thinks Twitter is no place for direct commerce and promotion then you may want to think twice about using Tweetglide. Hi, my name is Travis Campbell, I operate this site. I'm here to share what I can from my lessons marketing online. With sizeable investments in continuing education, various software products and services, I have had some winners, and some losers. One way I can extend what I've learned is by writing about it, here... and helping you along the way.
Thanks for doing this Travis. Mike is a good guy, and it is nice to hear a balanced review of this tweetglide thing. I'm going to give it a shot.
another great one, thanks travis!
I like the app, I'd say it's better than tweetdeck!
Thanks for the psot!
