Why Authority Labs Rocks for Keyword and SEO Tracking
The search engines can stress you out if you let them. With all the changes of late, especially as the search engines figure out how to integrate the social web in results pages, it is hard to keep up. Having your rankings drop suddenly is enough to make your heart skip a beat (in a bad way). I’ve concluded that rankings are fluid, just get used to it and live to fight another day. Authority Labs has made makes life easier for customers, much easier when it comes to tracking SEO rankings over time, and with the recent updates to the service, has just gotten better.
Why Authority Labs Rocks for Keyword and SEO Tracking
A couple weeks ago there was a noticeable drop in rankings with the search engine for one of my sites. I saw this after checking my AuthorityLabs account. What changed to cause this drop? Nothing really, in fact, as a looked at other sites, I saw the same proportional drop, and after investigating further around the web, realized that many sites had been hit in a similar fashion.
Here’s What I Saw
When I looked at my account, here is what I saw…which could be alarming.
The rankings were falling off the table, and traffic to the site reflected that. However, other domains were impacted in a similar way, so I decided to hang tight.
The Rebound as Depicted by Authority Labs
I continued to monitor the situation, but wasn’t really too worried, to be honest. Afterall, the search engines are changing all the time, and often revert sites back to similar placement, unless they are violating some best practices, altogether. Here’s what I saw a few days later.

My point here is if I hadn’t been using a SEO software tracking service like AuthorityLabs I would have been in the dark on these changes. In this case the sites were fine, but that is not always the case (see a case study here).
Some New Things at AuthorityLabs
What I appreciate about AuthorityLabs is that they are continuing to add features while maintaining the same price structure. I saw a couple new links on my account one was, indexation. The best way to describe it, is they are tracking the total number of pages indexed in the search engine, as well as a list of the most authoritative pages. Backlinks. Using a combination of Yahoo, Linkscape, and MajesticSEO, this page shows you the all important backlinks and some details about them. Here is a screenshot of a part of that page (it’s small, I know):

Other features involve gathering data faster, local ranking data, and a better graphing engine.
What Say You? Noticed any strange behavior with the search engines? If you did, would you know what to do? Are you monitoring your keyword rankings the old fashioned way, or with an SEO tracking software? (Learn about the AuthorityLabs Free Trial here).

Hi, my name is Travis Campbell, I operate this site. I'm here to share what I can from my lessons marketing online. With sizeable investments in continuing education, various software products and services, I have had some winners, and some losers. One way I can extend what I've learned is by writing about it, here... and helping you along the way.
Nice catch! Thanks for sharing this, good work Authoritylabs.
Thanks for saying so Roger.
Wasn't Easter that week?
I believe it was… did you see something on your end that weekend?
Yes, I saw it across the board and found it fascinating … who knew Easter was so influential??
That's some impressive feature-rich tracking…..I'm signing to see what this puppy has over Analytics and the usual awstats.
