It seems the announcement of Google Buzz, has created, well, you guessed it, buzz.  From security concerns, to “Facebook killer” language, and everything in between, Google Buzz is another example of Google extending its presence in the social (and mobile) web.  It adds on to Gmail accounts, and allows for social engagement with those in your Google address book and beyond.  Below is a video overview of Google Buzz, excerpts from content I’ve been reading around the web, and the real question for marketers, as always, chime in with your own thoughts.

Question for Internet Marketers

What are your thoughts about Google Buzz? Simply borrowing technology from Google Friend Connect and Google Wave?  The question I have for you is, do you see Google Buzz as having potential for extending your online marketing, or is it simply another potential distraction? Before responding, consider the same question for Facebook when you first heard about it. Good for business, bad, or too early to tell?

I think we all need to keep abreast of these developments and determine if this is where our customers/prospects live, and if they wish you dialogue there.

    Janice-

Happy to provide them, especially if they are useful :-) I think anything Google does is worth watching, they have a lot of critical data at their fingertips. Marketers should make themselves and the companies they represent, easy to find anywhere.

Jack- I think that is a solid approach. Be there, and then be active as it is suitable for your business.

Google needs to come out with a means for one to change the URL for their Google Profiles and not have it just attached by the username of ones email

I agree, but not likely high on their priority list. Currently they only have two options that I see, your @gmail handle (making your email address effectively public), or a numeric value, which doesn't have much conversational value when offline.
