Twitter is Down – Why I Don’t Care Much

At the time of writing this post, Twitter is down. Does it impact you when Twitter is down?  Perhaps you are susceptible to Twitter Withdrawal Syndrome (TWS), as is cleverly depicted in this video by CoachDeb?  Perhaps you are a newbie, and haven’t get got going with Twitter, or don’t yet have a strategy is for using Twitter for Business?
I used to care when these things would happen, and while I’m looking forward to Twitter being back up, honestly I don’t care all that much.

Twitter is Down – Why I Don’t Care Much

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy connecting with people on Twitter, sharing useful information, and learning from others.  It’s just that Twitter has been known to go down before like any social media site goes down from time to time.  I think of those who might be relying on twitter for an aspect of it’s social media campaign, or product launch.  They might be hurting a bit, but not so much, if they are smart about it.

Putting Social Media Sites Like Twitter In Perspective

You see, Social Media is great for a lot of things, but when a business is build on social media alone, it is as the risk and mercy of others.  Social media as a marketing component is not something to pass up, however, it will hurt you if it is not a part of an overall strategy to build your online business.

Social Media Contingency Plan

The reality is online marketers need contingency plans, and in this case a Business Plan for Failing Social Networking Sites, this cannot be overstated (hence the link).  If you are in this situation, you are not alone.  Many (myself included) have learned the hard way that in order to make it online, you need to have a strategy where you gain increasing control of the marketing properties (your website, your email list, your customer list, etc.).

It’s not all that hard to do, requires just a little thought beforehand.

What say you? Does it bother you when Twitter or other sites go down? Why or why not?  Chime in Below.

Excellent points. I was bummed that twitter went down, but to your point maybe I'm relying too much on it. I will have to rethink some things.

Bob. Many were bummed about the Twitter outage, my concern is how reliant business owners become on a free service. It is worthwhile to think big picture on these items. Others?
